CANADIAN NURSES FOR AFRICA (CNFA)

We believe that access to basic healthcare is a universal human right.

Our Mission

Our prime objective is to provide free medical, preventative, and sustainable health care as well as education in rural communities in Africa.

To support and improve the health of people who live in rural communities of Africa through short term health care and collaborative sustainable health initiatives.

CNFA is a nurse-led volunteer organization empowering experienced nurses to use their knowledge and skills in a field setting. We conduct medical trips in rural Kenya where we partner with Kenyan medical personnel and community workers. We treat a wide range of illnesses, with malaria and upper respiratory problems being the most frequent.

A Christmas Story

Precious is an adorable six-year-old girl who had a significant heart problem, requiring surgery if she was to live to adolescence. She lives with her mother and grandmother in a very remote village in Western Kenya without running water, electricity or access to healthcare.

Take a look at a few of our programs

Canadian Nurses for Africa is composed entirely of volunteers. We strive to provide free medical care to the people in the Kakamega and Vihiga regions of Kenya through the medical trips and ongoing public health initiatives. Our goal is to improve the general health of those who live in the area. Improved health results in improved school performance and higher levels of employment. We will continue to provide ongoing programs, such as our jiggers eradication program, school deworming program, and building school latrines in order to meet our objectives.

Mobile Medical Clinics

CNFA nurses conduct mobile medical clinics in various locations throughout Vihiga County, Kenya. These clinics see an average of 600 people each day and provide comprehensive healthcare services, including hospital referrals and payments for advanced care.

Our Goal

Making a Difference, One Community At A Time

Since our inception in 2007, Canadian Nurses for Africa has focused on serving underserved communities in rural Kenya. Our primary work has been concentrated in Vihiga County, located near Kakamega, where access to basic healthcare is limited. These communities face significant barriers, including the lack of medical resources, transportation, and health education.

By working hand-in-hand with local healthcare workers and volunteers, we’ve provided sustainable solutions that not only improve immediate health outcomes but also empower the community for the long term.
